Critical perspectives on methods in German sociology
In recent years, a number of paradigm shifts have taken place in sociology when it comes to researching racism. This is associated with ethical and methodological challenges.
One question is whether the discourse analysis that is widespread in the social sciences focuses too much on identity politics and symbolic struggles. Is the "invisible hand" of institutions being lost from view? Prof. Dr. Anja Weiß will discuss this with us.
Our second guest, Prof. Dr. Manuela Boatcă, argues that an examination of the history of colonialism and the associated racist patterns does not yet constitute a postcolonial sociology. Instead, she argues for a post- and decolonial perspective on sociology as a method of knowledge.
Tae Jun Kim, sociologist and research associate at the National Discrimination and Racism Monitor (DeZIM), will moderate the discussion.
