Committees and Advisory Boards

To ensure that our research remains relevant to society, two committees support the work of the National Discrimination and Racism Monitor. They contribute diverse perspectives and support quality assurance as well as the project’s further development.

Scientific Advisory Board

The Scientific Advisory Board advises the National Discrimination and Racism Monitor on research approaches, methods, and results. It supports the strategic development of the project and, through critical reflection and regular evaluation, helps ensure the national and international quality of the research.

Civil Society Advisory Board

The Civil Society Advisory Board contributes institutional expertise from practical and community contexts. It identifies relevant issues and supports the reflection on research as well as knowledge transfer.

Role of the Civil Society Advisory Board

Experiences from counseling, educational work, and community contexts highlight where challenges lie, which questions are particularly relevant, and how results are understood in different contexts.

This exchange helps us

  • formulate research questions precisely,

  • design survey instruments in a clear and appropriate manner,

  • carefully interpret findings, and

  • take transfer needs into account at an early stage.

Incorporating diverse perspectives enhances the precision, relevance, and clarity of our research.

Approach
For individual research projects, we conduct targeted consultations. These concern, for example,

  • the development of questionnaires,

  • the discussion of sensitive topics,

  • the interpretation of results, or

  • the design of publications.

In sensitive contexts, we also speak with individuals and organizations in the relevant field to address topics responsibly. Their input is incorporated into the research design and is professionally evaluated by the research team.

What emerges

The civil society accompaniment process connects research, practice, and knowledge transfer:

  • nationwide collaborations with organizations from different regions and subject areas,

  • targeted consultations on research tools and findings,

  • methodological guidance for civil society actors,

  • workshops on the further development of participatory research approaches, as well as

  • preparation of results for science communication and political education,

  • specialized events with practitioners; collaborations with civil society partners.

This fosters a continuous exchange that informs research and supports the application of knowledge.
