Projects

The National Discrimination and Racism Monitor (NaDiRa) deals with racism in various projects in different research areas.

Current projects

Theoretical perspectives on anti-Semitism and anti-Muslim racism in the post-migrant society

The project approaches the interfaces between anti-Semitism and anti-Slavic racism as well as anti-Muslim racism on a theoretical level.

Intermigrant racisms and solidarities

Using the example of people of Turkish origin in Germany, the project sheds light on intermigrant dynamics and transnational racisms in the context of historical lines of conflict, new areas of tension and institutional framework conditions in Germany.

NaDiRa Media Monitor: Continuities and change in the discourse on racism

With the Media Monitor, we analyze how German media dealt with racism in the period from 1990 to 2022.

Institutional racism in daycare centers

The project examines how institutional racism arises and is negotiated in day-care centers.

Completed projects

Racism in medical training

The project examines institutional racism in healthcare by analyzing random samples of common teaching materials in medical training.

Mental representations of racial inequality

This project should make it possible to collect mental representations through innovative, indirect and behavioral measurement methods.

Community perspectives on racism in healthcare

The project examines experiences of racism in healthcare using a participatory research design. v

Online racism as an interaction catcher: How social and technical components are mutually dependent

The project investigates racism and hate speech in social networks such as Facebook and Twitter. It asks whether and how algorithmic recommendation logics affect the form, visibility, popularity and dissemination of racist content.

Perceived prototypicality of different groups in German society

Using the example of anti-Muslim and anti-Black racism, the project examines how these mechanisms manifest themselves in the complex dynamics of racism, what perspective those affected by racism have on it, and what preconditions and consequences are associated with it.

Law & Racism

Within the framework of the outlined research strand, the project focuses on the (officially) institutionalized possibilities that people affected by racism have to defend themselves against racism.

Opportunities and hurdles of racism-related counseling work

In close cooperation with the "Law & Racism" project, the project deals with the possibilities and limits of institutionalized ways to defend oneself against racism.
